Ready for the Quilter

The iSpy Quilt for The Blue One is ready for the quilter!  And that quilter just might be me.  I’m trying to decide – do I sent it off to Lucy to quilt it, or do I wait until the end of August and take it to her shop and quilt it myself?  If I actually want him to be able to use it this summer, I should just take it in and have her quilt it for me.  Hmm…decisions, decisions.  In the meantime, I need to put together the back for The Pink One’s iSpy Quilt.  I still need to order her border fabric for the front, but I know what the finished size will be, so there’s no reason to not get started on the back.

A couple of firsts for this quilt —>

1 – Applique.  Not too bad for my first attempt, if I do say so myself!

2 – A back with some character.  I’ve never done a back that wasn’t all the same.  Since the front is made up of 5″ squares, I figured I’d put some 5″ squares on the back as well.  I chose to separate the squares with 1.5″ blue sashing strips (there are 1.5″ white sashing strips on the front).  I think it turned out pretty darn great.  He helped choose the squares for the back.  I’ll get up-close pictures once it’s quilted.  I hope it turns out great!

I spent some time Friday night making the bindings, so at least they’re done!

About msminnesota

I'm a wife, mom of two (one blue, one pink), and I work full time. Our family loves to camp, and we're often on mini adventures during the summer. My fall/winter/spring/rainy day hobby is quilting. I started about 10 years ago, then put everything away when The Blue One was born. A few years ago a good friend decided to take up this 'hobby' and I've been back at it ever since. She's my partner in crime (A.K.A. 'the enabler'). I have no aspirations of becoming a quilt designer - I'm just not that good at geometry (I rely on my math major/computer programmer husband to help with piecing backs at times!). This little blog is my way of chronicling my quilting adventures. Occasionally I post about non-quilting things as well. Thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to say HI! IG: wannabequilter

Cute! I can’t wait to are your finished quilts! The backs look cute. 🙂

I do live in Sumner, IA. Are you in IA? We just moved here so anyone I meet that’s also in these parts makes me feel like I have another friend here. 🙂

I have a colleague that is from Sumner, so I was there with her once. She dog-sits our dog, and I think my dog has been there several times! 🙂 I live in SE Minnesota, so very close to Iowa.

I want to hear from you...
