I’ve been a little busy this week, but couldn’t post a WIP because it was a surprise gift for my friend Nichole’s brand new baby boy that was born on August 16. Nichole and hubby decided to be surprised so they didn’t find out the gender beforehand. I didn’t want to do a gender-neutral quilt for the babe so I had to kick it into high gear once the baby was born.
On Saturday, Aug 18, I picked up Jungle Bungle from 4th and Main. I knew I wanted something that would come together quickly, because I already had a date on the calendar for long-arm machine rental for Saturday the 25th, so I chose The Road Trip Quilt – a Cluck Cluck Sew tutorial. I got home at 2:00 p.m. and immediately started working on it. By 7:30 p.m. I was finished (that includes a break for dinner). I had enough fabric to do 12 rows instead of 10, which is perfect for this quilt. The stripes in the quilt aren’t Jungle Bungle, but the LQS had them shelved just below the Jungle Bungle line, and since they went so well with the rest of the prints I was using, I threw them in. I used a bright green minky for the backing (gotta love that it’s 60″!). I knew that my quilt lady had a pattern with jungle animals, and let me tell you – it’s PERFECT!!
Here are a few pics…
The fabrics
All laid out and ready to be put together
Being quilted (I added baby’s initials – A, J & N on the quilt. Here’s the J).
Elephant & giraffe heads – stitching on back
I found that the bar in our family room is the perfect size to cut off excess backing & batting
The Pink One naming the animals on the back
FINISHED (those are The Blue One’s feet!)
Gift delivered! So happy I can post about it now!
Wow! How fun! I love mixing prints from all different lines – it keeps my creativity ignited!
Hi Felicity! Thanks for stopping by!
Very cute! I’m jealous about the computer quilting.
It’s fun! I’m fortunate that I have a place (relatively) close that I can go and rent time on the long arm machine. I’m not ready to free-hand it just yet, so I use the pantographs or the compuquilter for now.
beautiful work
Thank you!
