It’s 9:18 p.m. and I’m piecing fabric for my current project. I’ve already been at it for several hours. It’s New Year’s Day and husband has been intermittently watching Star Wars and napping on the family room couch for a couple of hours. The Blue One is playing the iPad and playing in his room, and The Pink One is playing with the dollhouse Santa brought her. This leaves me several hours of ‘free’ time to bust out as much of this top as I can before Saturday. Saturday is my next ‘date’ with the longarm.
The project I’m working on is Terry Atkinson’s Fire Escape using Joy (Kate Spain/Moda). I had everything except one of the fabrics cut before today, so I already had a pretty good head start. By 9:18 when our dog came to check on me (AKA let me know it’s time to head to bed), I only had about 12 more pieces to sew together before I had this:
I’m now ready to assemble all my rows, and I’m hoping everything comes together quickly. If not, not a huge deal. My longarm date on Saturday wasn’t planned for this quilt, it was scheduled to quilt my Project Linus donation quilt. I’ll share pictures in a future post, the top is at Lucy’s waiting for me to return.
For fun, I thought I’d pull up my project list from a few months ago.
On The Back Burner:
Reunion – Cluck Cluck Sew’s Inside Out pattern.
(This is going to take a lot longer than I had originally thought!)
I haven’t touched this since the summer!
Next Up:
Lucy’s Crab Shack in Cluck Cluck Sew’s Plus pattern.
Probably not ‘next up’ any longer. Once I get back to the Reunion quilt, I’m not going to want to jump right back in and do the reverse of the Inside Out pattern right away.
Somewhere down the line:
Table runners/coasters for the living room tables. Maybe not. These are currently WIPs and I quickly fell out of love with them.
Mug rug for my desk Done! (And one for Nichole, too!)
Bliss quilt…I still have no clue what pattern
A Christmas Quilt
A Halloween Quilt
A second Project Linus quilt. I just bought some Peanuts fabric specifically for this and 2 pillowcases from FQS on their end of the year sale.
And many, many more!
I’m linking up to Lee’s WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced. Heidi from Buttons and Butterflies is guest-posting today. Swing by and check out what others are working on!
I like the pattern you are working on, can’t wait to see more of it. I am stopping by from the WIP hop, I would love to have you come by and see what I have been up to 🙂 http://domesticdeficitdisorder.blogspot.com/2013/01/wip-wednesday.html
Hi Tanyia – thanks for dropping in!
Great fabrics. I did make new Christmas stockings this year, but that was the extent of my Christmas fabric sewing.
Thanks, Tsoniki! I’m pretty excited about this fabric! I’d love to see your Christmas stockings. I also wanted to tell you that I’m super jealous that you went to Sewing Summit this year! I really wanted to go!
I love this line of fabrics! Can’t wait to see the completed quilt. Love Terry Atkinson patterns, they look great but go together quick and easy!
Hi Abby! Thanks for dropping by!
Good luck binding all of those quilts! Binding is my least favorite part of the process.
Nice!! Love the fabric and the fun design. You are a crazy-busy quilter 🙂
Michelle – you should see the stuff that Gretchen is cranking out. She texted me pictures of 3 finished quilts last night. I told her it was like a virtual trunk show. Goal for the new year – get her blogging so she can share what she’s been doing!
Thanks for stopping by!
I saw fire escape at a quilt show and was drawn to it but never got around to it. yours looks very promising – have fun on your date 🙂
I bought a kit at a Terry Atkinson test pattern session – I couldn’t pass it up! My friend Gretchen has finished 2 so far!
Loving the blocks Julie! Hopefully you will have enough time to get it done before Saturday. No pressure though!
Um, yeah….that’s not going to happen! A minor setback tonight, but I’m back on track!
Loving the blocks – I really loved that Christmas line this year. Great WIP to kick off the New Year!
Thanks Stacey, and thanks for stopping by!
I can’t wait to see this one finished! I taught this class and just finished quilting one from one of my students. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Terry Atkinson’s designs! I might even be called ‘stalker-ish’ – Just kidding! I found you thru the Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday.
Beth – before I post finished pictures of this quilt, you may want to check out my blog post from this morning…

All I can say is ‘OOPS’!
It still looks fine, it just didn’t follow Terry’s map! 🙂 Lesson learned!
Visiting from WIP, and I love your blog! Such happy projects and I loved your recent post. Thanks for sharing that it’s okay if not everything in quiltey-land is perfect! I love that!
Thanks for stopping by Dee! And let me tell you, things in MY quilty land are very often NOT perfect. 🙂
Oh, I can’t wait to see this come together. I see one of these in my future!! Cute!
I have a not-so-great pic of it on the family room floor as I was laying it out – it’s a little blurry for some reason, but you get the idea. It’s all together, just awaiting a border.
Well….that didn’t work! But I’ll be posting the finished top soon!
