WIP – Does This Count?

Does it count as a WIP if I haven’t done anything yet other than ordered and received my fabric?  Well, I think so.

So here is my WIP (ok, maybe not quite a WIP), and I’m already a little nervous about it.
Untitled
I’m doing the Bloom Bloom Pow QAL with Lee over at Freshly Pieced.  I’m nervous about it because I’m a square-and-rectangle kind of girl.  I’ve never made anything with triangles (besides 1 Swoon block).  Eek!  There you have it – my deep dark secret!

This week is cutting week.  I should probably get some stuff pressed if I think I’m going to be cutting this week!

I know it’s not expected, but I’d really like to keep up with the QAL.  I’ll just have to see how it all goes…I’m not making any promises!

I’m linking up to Lee @ Freshly Pieced today, and hopefully the next few Wednesdays with progress on my QAL project!

About msminnesota

I'm a wife, mom of two (one blue, one pink), and I work full time. Our family loves to camp, and we're often on mini adventures during the summer. My fall/winter/spring/rainy day hobby is quilting. I started about 10 years ago, then put everything away when The Blue One was born. A few years ago a good friend decided to take up this 'hobby' and I've been back at it ever since. She's my partner in crime (A.K.A. 'the enabler'). I have no aspirations of becoming a quilt designer - I'm just not that good at geometry (I rely on my math major/computer programmer husband to help with piecing backs at times!). This little blog is my way of chronicling my quilting adventures. Occasionally I post about non-quilting things as well. Thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to say HI! IG: wannabequilter

I had been eying up these fabrics for a while but wasn’t sure what I would do with them, then that darn Lee posted this QAL and I had to participate! 🙂

Triangles aren’t that bad, actually. I cut squares an inch larger than the desired finish, draw a diagonal line, sew 1/4 inch on both sides of the line, cut, press, and trim to 1/2 inch more than the desired finished size. Two things help: having sewn before cutting the diagonal helps control the bias and trimming allowing that extra 1/8 inch so you can trim to a nice square.

I want to do it too but still have not even purchased the fabric. You’re one step ahead of me.

You are so lucky to have to fabric set! I am doing Bloom Bloom Pow too, but I’ve had to pull from my stash. Budgets are the pits :p This QAL is going to be a blast! Can’t wait for the next post 🙂

I had just told my husband I was done buying fabric for a while (Feb-March were kind if expensive quilting-wise for me) when I saw Lee’s QAL. He told me to go ahead and buy the kit and I didn’t wait for him to change his mind!

  6. Natalie says:

Awesome! Buying fabric totally counts as a WIP. And Lee is a great teacher, this is a good choice!

  7. It counts for me! LOL
I have all kinds of fabrics put aside for projects—projects that I have no idea when I will get motivated to get started.

  8. Renee says:

You have start somewhere! At least you have your fabric and a plan!

  9. Well having the fabric in the house means you have started the project, right? 🙂 and I really like that bracelet fabric! The colours are yummy!

  10. It counts! Wonderful colours. I have come to the conclusion I do not have enough scraps for my granny squares quilt! maybe it is just me. Thanks for dropping by my blog

I want to do Bloom Bloom Pow too, but I decided to pin it and save it for later. It is going to be exciting to see all the quilts start showing up when everyone is finished, though 🙂

  12. Linh says:

I’m also doing that QAL so excited but I’m using my own fabric. The pearl bracelet collection is beautiful. I would say that this is probably going to be the hardest one I’m following but we’ll get through it. Time to cut

I just sorted my fabrics. I was thinking of cutting tonight, but I think I’d rather drink wine instead! Can’t wait to see what you’re using for yours!

I want to hear from you...
