I wasn’t going to do it, I swear. But the more I looked at the Wishes Quilt Along, the more I was considering it. The blocks are all stuff I’ve never done (I’m the squares-and-rectangles girl, remember?) and I looked at it as a good way to learn some new skills. I watched the January and February videos of Kimberly assembling the blocks and I decided to bite the bullet and do it. And although I already have a FQ bundle of Wishes, I went ahead and purchased the kit because I had a 20% off FQS coupon, so it was good timing. I placed my order and patiently waited for it to arrive.
This weekend was my husband’s annual hockey trip with the guys, so I had a whole weekend at home with the kids and plenty of time to get to work learning some new skills. The fact that The Pink One has a double ear infection solidified my decision to stick close to home for the weekend. Poor kid!
Saturday afternoon I worked on the January block and finished it with no problems at all.
And I promptly went to work cutting fabric for the February block and started assembling it on Saturday night and finished it this morning.
I was seriously afraid of half-square triangles, but I’m slowly getting over it! These are far from perfect (that’s why there’s no close-up), but they look pretty good to me! I bought the Quilt In A Day Triangle Square Up Ruler (9.5″) after I read Amy’s post about it. It’s going to help me tremendously!
While I was putting away stuff in my sewing room last week, I rediscovered die cut letters I purchased for scrapbooking. I haven’t touched that stuff in years (other than to move it from one cabinet to the other), but I knew I could use these letters for this QAL to keep me organized. I was considering buying the Alphabitties from Fat Quarter Shop, but for now these will do the trick.
It looks like fun; and the colors look really good together. Are the colors assigned or do you get some choice?
I chose to use the same fabrics in the same places and they have done it on the sample quilt. I figure I’ll have much better chance of NOT confusing myself later!
I can sure understand that logic! Enjoy. I’ll enjoy watching you do the rest. (I do well at vicarious quilting.)
Ha Ha! Cute! Thanks for stopping by!
The blocks look great… I still keep thinking about joining the Wishes Quilt Along.
Thanks Gret! I know you don’t NEED another project…..It’s a skill builder, remember? 🙂
Your blocks look great! Isn’t the Quilt Along FUN!! I’m doing it too, and am using the FQS kit.
Thanks! I am glad I joined the QAL. I’ll pop over and check out your blocks!
I saw the Wishes Quilt Along deal today. I’m sure not ready for anything that complicated, (since I haven’t even attempted my first quilt), but I definitely loved the pattern and fabrics. You, my dear, are brilliant! They look excellent! Kudos!!
Thanks Becki! This one is going to teach me a few things, and I guess that’s a good thing! 🙂
Looks great so far, and your fabric choice is really nice, can’t wait to see the finished top.
Thank you!
Looking fabulous! Hope all the family is in better health 🙂
