M & M Lanyards

We set sail next week on our very first Disney Cruise, and instead of packing, I’ve decided to do some ‘projects’.

Project 1 was to be box bags.  I’m to the point of boxing the corners, and I’ve put a pause on that project.  Zippers & I are not really friends. And boxed corners on something with all this bulk, well, we’re not getting along all that well, either. This looks like a giant bulky mess to me. I’m going to enlist the help of a neighbor that has cranked out many of these. Hopefully she can get me back on track to finish them today. If not, I’m buying more fabric and paying her to make them for me!

I was having some frustrations (and multiple needle breaks) with these bags, so I decided to do something I knew I could do in one sitting….lanyards!

I was able to whip up 4 of them in about an hour.  Much better than the 8+ hours I’ve got into the 4 bags at this point!

AND…I got a little care package from Gretchen yesterday. She knew I needed a little pick-me-up, and she. How awesome is this mug? She got it from Modern Textiles.

About msminnesota

I'm a wife, mom of two (one blue, one pink), and I work full time. Our family loves to camp, and we're often on mini adventures during the summer. My fall/winter/spring/rainy day hobby is quilting. I started about 10 years ago, then put everything away when The Blue One was born. A few years ago a good friend decided to take up this 'hobby' and I've been back at it ever since. She's my partner in crime (A.K.A. 'the enabler'). I have no aspirations of becoming a quilt designer - I'm just not that good at geometry (I rely on my math major/computer programmer husband to help with piecing backs at times!). This little blog is my way of chronicling my quilting adventures. Occasionally I post about non-quilting things as well. Thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to say HI! IG: wannabequilter

Bulky box corners can be frustrating. If too thick, I will often trim any batting by 1/4″ to remove them from the seam allowance. Have you also tried cutting a square notch the appropriate size (1″ square notch gives you a 2″ box corner). Love the lanyards and the models!

I did cut a square out. The tutorial I’m using is pretty good, but I’m a little confused on next step, and don’t want to screw up considering how much time I already have invested, so will call for backup to finish.

  2. I love the lanyards! So cute! Good luck on the boxes. Zippers and box corners are both unpleasant acquaintances of mine. I can’t wait to see how they turn out.

  3. Good luck with the box bags! I like the new pictures!! Enjoy your mug!
