Backing, Binding, and Stashing, Oh My!

This weekend was only the second weekend all summer that I was home all weekend, and I sure did put my time to good use.

First up – borders onto the Wishes quilt top, and then piecing the backing together. This afternoon I pinned the zippers for the long arm leaders on, and at some point this week I’ll baste them on so I’m all ready to go for my long arm appointment next Sunday.

Second project – piece the back for the baby boy quilt top I’ve had done for about 4 months.  This one is also going on the long arm on Sunday – it’s just easier for me to do a second one while I’m already there.

Glow in the dark astronauts for the back. The stripes are the binding (of course!)

Third – I pieced the backing for my Triple Barn Star quilt. This top has been finished since about April or so, but I knew it would be a while before I could get to the long arm, so no rush piecing the back.  I’m not planning to take this one to the long arm, but I had some ‘free’ time so decided to just get the back put together.  I would really like to custom quilt this one – not an all over design, and I want to echo the stars.  Something I’ve never done before, so the top will go to the long arm shop with me and I’ll consult with Lucy to see what she thinks I should (and can) do.  You’ll be seeing this one again, hopefully soon!

Lastly, the bindings for each.  I sent this pic to my friend Gretchen and captioned it ‘A quilter’s snowman’.  Yes, I’m a dork, I know it!

While I was working on my projects, the Mister was working on a project of his own…

We’ll be buying a piece of furniture – an accent chair or a small love seat for that large open space.  I am so excited with how it all turned out!  The curtains will go up tonight so we can sleep in there, and the new family photo and wall art I bought last week will go up once we have that final piece of furniture in the room.

Of course I had to sneak in there and lay out the back for the Wishes quilt so I could pin the zippers on before we moved the furniture back in.

And finally – the stashing I did this week – more red, white, and blue for some projects I’ve been saving up for.  I think I now have enough to actually start on the projects.

About msminnesota

I'm a wife, mom of two (one blue, one pink), and I work full time. Our family loves to camp, and we're often on mini adventures during the summer. My fall/winter/spring/rainy day hobby is quilting. I started about 10 years ago, then put everything away when The Blue One was born. A few years ago a good friend decided to take up this 'hobby' and I've been back at it ever since. She's my partner in crime (A.K.A. 'the enabler'). I have no aspirations of becoming a quilt designer - I'm just not that good at geometry (I rely on my math major/computer programmer husband to help with piecing backs at times!). This little blog is my way of chronicling my quilting adventures. Occasionally I post about non-quilting things as well. Thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to say HI! IG: wannabequilter

Your quilt tops look great and that was a lot of quilting prep work you did in just one weekend! My favourite is the triple barn star quilt – beautiful colours and piecing ☺

  4. Red, whites, and blue is always a classic. Enjoy your quilting!
